Augusta Street and its arch

Rua Augusta is one of the most emblematic streets in Baixa Pombalina, with street animation and historic shops. At the end of this cobblestone walkway you will find the Arco da Rua Augusta, which was designed during the city’s reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake. You can visit this arch, which has an incredible view over the Tagus River and Praça do Comércio. Elevador de Santa Justa

This elevator has been connecting Rua do Ouro to Largo do Carmo for over 100 years. This neogothic tower was built by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard, an engineer who was a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, the creator of the Parisian Eiffel Tower. You can travel in the elevator, which is 45m high, and when you reach the top, enjoy a viewpoint with magnificent views of the entire city.

Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II

The most important theater hall in the capital was built in the 19th century in neoclassical style. It is the venue for the city’s main theater plays and cultural events.
